 We have two different classes for 5th and 6th grade students. Click each heading to see an overview of the topics covered in each course and the days they are offered.  

2021 - 2022 class will be offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays

Note: This course rotates curriculum every year so students can take the course more than once. 

The main topics covered this year are:

  • Scientific Observation vs. Inference
  • Scientific Classification and Dichotomous Keys
  • Insects and Arachnids

  • Fish Anatomy and Dissection
  • Reptiles and Amphibians
  • Bird Identification, adaption, and behavior
  • Mammal Classification and Characteristics
  • Wildlife of Arkansas. Conservation vs. Preservation
  • Outdoor Survival

We will also try to fit in fun outdoor activities such as canoeing, rock climbing, fishing, and archery when the weather and time permit. 

Students will complete a research project and present to their peers.

Each week we will spend time outside doing activities, conducting scientific inquiry, nature journaling, and more.  Please make sure your students come dressed for the weather.
